Although Jewish, her family never really practiced their religion
Grew up in Vienna, Austria
She studied law in the early 1930s when she was in her early 20s
Her family received an eviction notice banishing them from their home and into a ghetto
Soon after the ghetto, she was set to a camp as a slave labourer
Though she was told it was only for 6 months, she stayed 1 1/2 years
When she found out her mother was being sent to Poland, she got permission to visit her, though her intentions were to stay. but was two weeks late. She never saw her mother again.
After her mother was gone, Edith ripped off her Star of David (which would have gotten her killed if a Nazi had seen it) and escaped off the train home
Over the next few months, she stayed with many people and became a Nazi fugitive
She never stayed in one place for more than one night
Her friends told her it would be easier if she took up a new identity
She told the officials that her identification papers were lost in a boating accident and got duplicates of another friends' identification
She moved to Munich
She was now known as Grete Denner, a poor, young, uneducated nurse working for the Red Cross
Met Werner Vetter in an art museum
He turned how to be a Nazi Officer
When he later proposed, she confessed that she was a jew, but he didn't care
She soon gave birth to a baby girl whom she named Maria Angelika, or Angela
Werner was sent to a Russian labour camp
She took her Jewish identification card and got a court order to change her name since the war was supposively ending
When Werner returned, he did not like to have a wife so busy with a job so he left her for his 1st wife
The Russians soon found about her through her job and wanted to recruit her to the secret police
She declined and moved to Easy Germany with Angela
She later found her sister in England and went to live with her

In 1957 she married this Jewish jewelery merchant and raised Angela as a Jew
Fred died in 1984, only 5 years later
She moved to Israel
