The reason it is called kristallnacht is because of the shattered store window panes that covered the German streets.
These pogroms were set off by the killing of a German official in Paris by a 17 year old Jewish boy named Herschell Grynszpan. The boy is responsible for the killing of Ernst Vom Rath. Once this German official died the programs started to occur.
The reason Kristallnacht or night of broken glass happened was Germans were looking for a way to get rid of all the Jews and when Ernst Vom Rath was killed it gave Hitlers chief of propaganda an excuse that he was looking for to launch the progrems agenst all German Jews.
On November 9th 1993 a mob of violence broke out agenst Jewish people. Nazi stoorm troopers, members of SS, and Hitlers youth group beat and murdered Jews. They broke into and wrecked Jewish owned homes and businesses, they also brutalized Jewish women and Children. All Jewish belongings were thrown through the windows and burned in the streets of Germany. In one night
-1,300 Jewish Synagogues were burnt to the ground or demolished
-91 Jews were killed
-30,000 Jews were put in concentration camps
-7,000 Jewish businesses were destroyed
-thousands of Jewish homes were destroyed
-several Jews were arrested
On November 12th 1993 Hermann Goering called a meeting or all top Nazi leaders to discuse the damage done over the night of Nov. 9th. The reason for this meeting was to make the jews responceble for Kristallnacht. The Jews would be billed 400 million for the damages and that any insurance mony due to them would be confiscated.
